Dermaplaning Boston Newbury Street

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that gives the skin a smoother appearance, removing the skin’s top layers through a method of pleasant sloughing. Dermaplaning is used to improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of small facial wrinkles. It can also remove “peach fuzz,” which can trap excess dirt and oil. Dermaplaning is performed using a tool that gently exfoliates the top layer of skin. The skin is left incredibly smooth and glowing, with no irritation, allowing for better absorption of skincare products and better make-up application.

With dermaplaning there’s no downtime so it’s a great procedure to get the night of an event. Dermaplaning can also be paired with a chemical peel. Dermaplaning gives you great results and can be done in a series every 4 to 6 weeks with results being cumulative.  Scraping away dead skin cells and peach fuzz not only reveals a fresh new layer of skin but now your skin care products will penetrate and your makeup will appear flawless.

1) I was told that Dermaplaning gently exfoliates your skin and removes hair.  Is this true?

Answer: Dermaplaning is a gentle but thorough form of exfoliation. At the DeRosa Clinic, our aestheticians use a small tool that feels like a credit card and comfortably glides across the skin surface. In doing so, it gently removes dull dead skin cells. It also temporarily removes any superficial facial hair or “peach fuzz”. The skin is left feeling incredibly smooth and soft. It allows for better product absorption, and makeup application is flawless.

2) When the “peach fuzz” grows back will I have a beard?

Answer: Absolutely not!  The “peach fuzz” will return in the exact same manner as it was before it was removed.  You will have the same amount and color hair. It is common with anything ‘new’ we can be hyper-aware the first time of any sensations. After the first dermaplaning treatment, because you are paying attention more, you might notice the hair coming back, but it returns just as it was before. We like to tell people that if excess hair was even a 1% chance, no woman in the world would risk it!!

3) Question: How old should I be to get dermaplaning done?

Answer: Dermaplaning is great for absolutely any age (who doesn’t love smooth, glowing skin?)! At the DeRosa Clinic, we typically recommend dermaplaning for those 16 and older. Keep in mind that, as we age, our skin gets thinner, making dermaplaning the perfect option because this form of exfoliation does not use suction (tugging and pulling at sensitive skin).

4) Question: Can dermaplaning be done on men?

Answer: Because men have thicker, coarser facial hair, dermaplaning is not recommended. Fear not, we have plenty of other fabulous skin treatments for our male clientele!
